Our 4th of July went pretty well. We packed up the kids, the coolers, and the van and headed to Stone Mountain yesterday. It was pretty hot, but we managed to keep in the shade as much as possible. Bree did have a couple of seizures on the drive down, but she was okay once we got there. As anyone who knows her knows she is not big on meat... so she wasn't big on the hot dogs or hamburgers but we did have some Turkey dogs for her (she wasn't big on these either and only ate half of hers) but don't worry.... We had plenty of baked beans, cole slaw, potato chips, watermelon and chocolate cake for her to eat. She didn't run around with Allie and Lindsey any - she preferred to sit with us. The real fun came at night of course with the fireworks. We wondered how Lindsey would handle it. We even wondered how Bree would handle the loud noises even though she wanted to see the fireworks. Bree is afraid of loud noises. But both girls, even though they jumped during the booms, enjoyed the show.
Back home was where the fear was, Bree's nightmare from Friday still haunting her. She is still convinced she saw a face in her window. I don't know if it's because of the recent killings in Gaffney, SC (only a few hours from here) or her past abuse that is causing these nightmares but as of now she won't go upstairs alone and she jumps at every noise. I wish I could convince her that we will keep her safe. But with older kids, it's hard to do that. They know how the real world works.
