Bree got to come home yesterday, Thursday. She spent an extra day in the hospital. We had a nasty storm this morning. The drive home was stormy too and a bit scary. In fact it was stormy much of the time she was in the hospital. On Wednesday night she just wanted to watch the storm, and the lightning was so frequent it gave her several absence seizures, but how could I take her love of storm watching from her? I just lay on the hospital bed with her, wrapped her in her favorite fleece blanket we brought along, and held her, letting her watch the storm. She didn't realize she was having seizures. She would just appear to be day dreaming, stare off into nothing, then jerk and come back to me, asking "What? What just happened?" I would kiss her and tell her everything was okay, that I loved her. "Did I have a seizure mom?" She asked me each time. "You did, but it's okay now. It wasn't a bad one. It was one of the absence ones they told us about. You're okay now."
She had four or five Wednesday night, but they let her come home Thursday. The ride home, she had two seizures. One of them while she slept on the way. I was able to remain calm, take an exit and pull over and wait for the seizure to end. Rick called to warn me about a severe thunderstorm on our drive home. He asked how Bree was doing. The seizure had just ended and she was in her unconscious state, sometimes opening her eyes and her breathing was shallow and fast. I told him she'd just had a seizure but she was breathing, but we were going to sit here a few minutes and I would buy her some hot chocolate. I reached over to stoke her hair and cheek to soothe her, and she opened her eyes to look at me. We really bonded a lot over those 11 long days.
She had her 2nd seizure while awake, but still groggy while we were still driving. "Why does this keep happening to me?" She asked tearfully once she was alert enough again to speak. "I don't know sweetie, but we'll figure it out."
I need to go fix her some lunch and will finish this post later.

Once we got home Thursday she did okay. She fought off sleep though. She just didn't want to nap. She was afraid to. She was so happy to see her sisters. But the silly girl misses her nurses. She had 4 or 5 seizures over night last night, and woke up during a severe storm this morning calling Mom, mom mom. The girl who loves storms. But this one hit suddenly and just scared her. She was okay though just needed reassurance. Her seizure alarm didn't go off and neither did the apnea alarm so that wasn't what caused it. I need to go now. We have a busy afternoon. Her half sister graduates college.
