The doctor's visits

It's not even noon yet, but Bree has put in a full days worth of doctor's visits, or so it feels. She saw the neurologist first. He has put her on tegretol. The good thing about this is it is also used to treat PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder) so we are knocking out two of her problems with one drug, possibly. He told us that this medicine is very effective in people who's epilepsy is not controlled with dilantin, phenobarb, and other drugs or who have had serious side effects with these and other seizure meds and that is definitely Bree. So I hope it helps her. Once again she will have to have blood drawn once a week for the first 3 months, and then once a month for about 3 years or maybe as long as she is on this drug. They will start her at 400 mg and slowly build her up to as much as 1200 mg a day or until her seizures are under control but they hope to keep her at 400-800 mg daily. She will have an MRI tomorrow. She had one in May but he wants to do a more in-depth MRI of her brain. He wants her to have another EEG and she will have to stay up all night for it but she doesn't have to have that until September.
Because of the low blood sugar and the questions about whether that is causing her seizures too, she also so an endocrinologist. Both the neurologist and endocrinologist agree that it is probably NOT contributing to her seizures. If her blood sugar numbers were any lower then yes it could be. Right now they think her low blood sugar is caused by her diet, these times when she goes without eating. They want her to eat better, and they feel that once she is eating regularly and having more protein and a more balanced diet (They are wanting her to eat about 6 times a day, small meals or snacks, healthy ones like yogurt and cheese, maybe half a tuna sandwich). BUT they are going to run tests on her to make sure that nothing else is going on. They will make sure there are no tumors on her pancreas. They did a ton of blood work, testing her for adrenal gland insufficiency, testing her hemoglobin A1c, and others I can't recall off the top of my head right now. Hopefully we will have some answers soon. So keep your fingers crossed that we figure out both how to reduce or even better STOP her seizures and figure out what's going on with her blood sugar. She just wants to go home now, we're hanging out in the motel because she has a stomach ache and doesn't feel like going out exploring.
