Well, last night we had to use the Diastat with Bree, she had a seizure that went on, and on, and on for 11 minutes. Thankfully it worked after a couple of minutes but I must say giving that to her was so nerve wracking. Diastat is a rectal gel that you administer with a syringe and I was afraid I would hurt her, was afraid that her sister trying to hold her still so I could administer it - while she was still seizing would hurt her but it didn't. We didn't have to take her to the ER since the seizure stopped and she didn't have another episode. I wanted to take her, I was so worried since she just slept, and slept and slept but we've been advised by the neurologist that if the seizure stops when we give her the diastat and she doesn't have another long one like that that we don't have to take her since she has so many seizures and we are old pros at it by now.
This morning she was very out of it, confused and I'm not sure if it's because of the long seizure or a side effect from her new medicine. It's hard not knowing. She's had trouble with everything, today, my poor girl. We've started Vitamin b6 supplements, added Diamox, increased Tegretol and lyrica all with the hopes it will help. It's just not been a good day and I worry if that long seizure did more damage to her brain.
