Letting kids plan your menu
Sometimes it can be very dangerous to let the kids plan your menu. Since Bree doesn't feel like she gets to make very many choices in her life - She is not allowed to drive, swim, bathe or shower alone (although we have worked around this on her good days by just making sure we were outside the bathroom where we are able to hear her) or be left home alone and her TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) impairs her judgement on many things so we do have to make some big choices for her. Because of all of this we decided to let her plan our family dinners. I could just see us having bean burritos, or pinto beans, or spaghetti over and over. Hubby could imagine steak and burgers gone off the dinner table forever. But tonight's dinner is actually very good - Rotisserie chicken, sweet potatoes, and steamed rice. With pecan pie for desert. Yum! I can't wait, and the best part is I picked the chicken up from the grocery store Deli, the rice steams in the microwave, the pie is frozen and just have to thaw, so except for baking the potatoes and reheating the chicken, basically I don't really need to put much effort into cooking our dinner. Actually Allie says she is going to do it with Bree assisting. Because of her repeated seizures there is not a lot of cooking that is safe for Bree to do. But she can use a microwave and she can set the table of course. When her seizures are more in control she is looking forward to doing more cooking. She especially wants to be in on decorating birthday cakes for everyone.
