Surgery is done

So sorry I didn't update yesterday. It has been a rough past few days. Bree had her surgery yesterday. The actual surgery went well - but she panicked going in when the two men showed up with a gurney to take her away. Long time readers, and family members know that she has post traumatic stress disorder. We aren't really sure why she freaked out when they showed up to take her. If it was because men were going to take her, but she did. She started begging us not to let them take her. So heartbreaking. So they said a couple of us could walk down with her to the OR. Lil Bee and I went with her, holding her hands. When we got to the doors of the OR she begged us not to let them take her. They say that she won't remember this because of the sedative they gave her, but I sure will remember it and it breaks my heart.
The surgery took just over two hours and it was hard, sitting there remembering her panic and having no word on how she was doing. Just knowing that we were supposed to keep her calm and happy before she went in because it is important as to her outcome. Then the doctor came in her room and said she was in recovery and came through surgery okay. They brought her back around 11:30. She spent the day confused and not sure where she was. We tried to get her to eat and drink but she basically refused. She was in and out all day, sleeping a lot. Finally we got her to eat around 10:00 PM.
We're going to get to go home this morning, as soon as the nurse gets back with the discharge papers. Would I do this over again? I'm not sure, ask again in about a month when we see if this was all worth it. Seeing how the anesthesia affects her, how an already severely traumatized girl with a traumatic brain injury handles the trauma of an "elective" hospital stay, I'm not sure yet if this was all worth it. If this cuts down on her seizures and gives her a better quality of life then yes it was all worth it.
